The term “gafieira” comes from the beginning of the 20th century to describe the dance halls of the working class neighborhoods of Rio de Janeiro. The music played in those ballrooms absorbed a wide range of musical influences, including Afro-Brazilian samba rhythms, French dance forms, Argentine tango, and North American big-band music. As a truly unique form of dance music evolved, with its dazzling arrangements and instrumentation, the word came to describe the music itself, as well as the various styles of dancing. Playing live is the wonderful Chico Chagas & Gafieira Brasil, a 7-piece band including percussion, drums, accordion, sax, guitar, flute and clarinet that will make you dance the night away, After that, DJ Limao strikes the dance floor with soulful Brazilian beats, from samba soul to latin house, always with the outstanding researcher spirit that is usual in his gigs. and the crowd always ends up dancing later in the evening.
