I believe the most of the big things in life are the unexpected.

And I didn’t expect when I was in Sao Paulo, in late may, relaxing from Economiadas marathon (check post below), and a good old school friend of mine, Luiza Campos, who turned into a brilliant film director, called me and told me – “I got something here that’s looks absolutely like you”. She’s directing some episodes of the first ever drama series made by MTV Brasil, Descolados, and in one of the episodes, there’s a British DJ coming to join the main plot, and she wanted me to play the DJ.

I had one more day in Brazil, with not a lot to do, then I went in the following morning to Mixer Productions, make a video test, just to give it a try.  As I’m not British, neither an actor, I really didn’t think it would get any further than this. But in fact that character did look like me… a rather dumb (in spite of his 30ish) ‘relaxed but serious’ kinda DJ…

Then, back home one week later, the unexpected happened. I’ve checked my e-mail during my trip to Hackney in the Route 254, and there was a new message from Mixer’s crew, telling me that they also agreed  the character looked like me, my english accent sounded okay, and that I was comfortable over the cameras, and I would do the role. I would be their DJ Lester.

I admit it was a bit of a freak for me. I didn’t know what to expect of myself, I ‘ve never acted, and once I do it, I need to do it well. Further more, I was booked to work in London with Sagatiba (check post below) during different days along June and July, and at that point no one really knew the exact days I should be at the set, in Sao Paulo. What if two dates were the same? It almost happened, for a bit, but it didn’t. It took me two return trips Sao Paulo/London in two weeks, (extacly while AirFrance’s plane felt down on this very route to make it worst) and a lot of stress, but the whole journey ended being the most amazing experience. 

At the set, I found an absolutely perfect team of professionals, from crew to the stars of the serie (get used to that guys..), all treating me so well, and helping me out with all my needs,  that took me five minutes to feel at home. A big hard-working, family in the best mood they could be. I’ve been recording for 4 days in a for the single, raw, episode I appear, and it was enough to tell how much these guys work to record the whole season, with 13 of those episodes. A massive project executed with not less than perfection by Mixer. 

The history is around these two guys and a girl, in their 20’s that happened to share a flat in Sao Paulo, and start their life away from their parents. From these point, every episode has a new way, apart but connected from the others. The connections between episodes are so well sewn, as well as the issues, texts, everything so smartly written, a real pleasure to watch.

The series starts at July 14th, at MTV Brazil, every Tuesday, 11-30PM, with replays on Saturdays 1-15AM and Sundays 11PM. The episode I’m on is to be first aired  on a Tuesday, August 11th, and replayed on the following weekend, 22-23. The whole serie is unmissable and specially if you know me, the episode I filmed is absolutely funny, a proper TV comedy for you to laugh a lot about.

PT (sem acento por problemas tecnologicos, e nao analfabetismo)

Eu acredito que as coisas grandes e importantes na vida sao as inesperadas.

E nao esperava quando no fim de maio, quando estava em Sao Paulo relaxando pos-Economiadas(vide post abaixo) e uma graaande amiga  da faculadade, Luiza Campos, que de la virou diretora de mao cheia, me ligou e disse – “Tem uma parada aqui qu eh a sua cara!”  Ela esta dirigindo parte da primeira serie de ficcao da MTV Brasil, Descolados, e em um dos episodios, esta vindo um DJ ingles, se juntar ao plot principal da serie. E ela achou que eu podia ser o DJ.

E tinha mais um dia no Brasil e nao muito o que fazer, entao fui na manha seguinte, despretensiomente, ate a produtora Mixer fazer um teste de VT. Como nao sou ingles, nem ator, achei que nao ia dar em nada. mas notei que o personagem me era mesmo bem familiar… um cara meio ‘engracado’ apesar dos seus trinta anos de idade… serio mas ‘relax’…

Entao, de volta pra casa, na semana seguinte, o inesperado aconteceu. Chequei meus e-mails na rota de volta pra Hackney no 254,  e tinha uma nova mensagem do pessoal da Mixer, me dizendo que o personagem realmente parecia comigo, que estava confortavel diante das cameras, que meu ingles tava decente, e que iria fazer  o seriado. Eu seria o DJ Lester.

Confesso que me senti um pouco inseguro. Eu nao sabia o que esperar de mim mesmo. Nunca atuei, e se eh pra fazer, eu tenho que fazer direito. Alem disso, eu tinha datas com um projeto da Sagatiba(vide post abaixo) agendadas por junho e julho, em Londres e naquela altura ninguem sabia ao certo as datas de gravacao, em Sao Paulo. E se duas datas coincidissem? Quase aconteceu. Por muito pouco. Mas rolou. E pelo preco de duas ida e  volta Sao Paulo/Londres em 15 dias(logo quando caia aviao da AirFrance no Atlantico), e muito stress, deu pra fazer tudo. E foi uma experiencia incrivel, fora-de-serie.

No set, eu encontrei um time de profissionais perfeito, que me tratou da melhor maneira possivel, desde equipe de producao ate as estrelas da serie (acostumem-se manos, hehe), todos me ajudando em tudo que eu precisei, um grupo que me fez me sentir a vontade em 5 minutos. Uma grande e trabalhadora familia, no melhor astral possivel. Eu gravei por 4 dias, pra fazer um episodio, cru, numa estrutura toda pronta, entao da pra ter uma nocao do quanto esta trabalhando esta galera para gravar a temporada inteira. Eh um projeto gigante executado com perfeicao pela Produtora Mixer.

A historia roda em torno de dois caras e uma garota, com seus 20 anos que vivem juntos em um apartamento, em uma das primeiras fases de quem mudou da casa dos pais. A partir disto, cada um dos episodios tem seu enredo, independente, porem conectado ao anterior. E estas conexoes sao muito inteligentes, assim como os textos, as situacoes. Tudo foi muito bem escrito. Um prazer de assistir.

A serie comeca 14 de julho e vai ao ar toda terca 23-30, sabado 1-15, e domingo 23hs. O episodo que eu participo vai ao ar terca-feira 11 de agosto, e reprisado no fim de semana seguinte 22-23. Toda a serie eh imperdivel e especialmente pra quem me conhece, o episodio que filmei eh muito engracado.  Comediao de rachar o bico.
